Why Donate a Book?
Here’s a little anecdote to give you a backstory about how this initiative started:My father supports a charitable organisation that is dedicated to improving and adding meaning to the lives of the children of leprosy patients in Haridwar. He visited them as often as he could and one day, I decided to accompany him to witness what he would so heart-warmingly share with me. Our car’s boot was full of new notebooks and stationery. We reached. The school’s principal came out to welcome my father and a group of eager, brighteyed children who exuded an undeniable zest for life followed behind.
They met me with such warmth and proudly volunteered to show me their school. Curiosity led us into a conversation. They shared a deep love for their modest school. When I asked about the one thing, they wish they would have had, one nine-year-old had an instant answer. It was as if my question unearthed a hidden desire that tugged at their hearts. He told me how they had watched a movie where there was a big room filled with books set inside a school. The other chimed in, in agreement. Their eyes almost sparkled as they recalled the images of libraries that they had seen in various movies. This confession of what they truly longed for – a sanctuary of books, dreams, and endless possibilities, became my goal.
That moment struck a chord with me, igniting a flame of determination to make their dream a reality. With unwavering resolve, I initiated ‘Donate a Book’, a heartfelt endeavour aimed at building a library for these deserving children. I had the privilege of a heart-warming encounter with the children that most definitely left a lasting mark on me. Their school, while nurturing their minds, lacked the magical realm of literature that could transport them to distant worlds, ignite their imagination, and quench their thirst for knowledge beyond the classroom. In the heart of Haridwar, the ‘Donate a Book’ initiative began to flourish, weaving threads of hope and aspiration.
So, you ask, “Why donate a book?” … Because with you all rallying behind this cause, each donated book is like a brick in the foundation of a dream. Together, we have and will continue to build a haven of words, where the children of Haridwar and places across India could unlock the doors to a world of knowledge and endless horizons. It is not just about books; it is about igniting the flames of curiosity, nurturing the dreams of underprivileged children, and reminding ourselves that the gift of education and the magic of literature can light up even the darkest corners of the world.
The mission is simple yet profound: collect books from kind-hearted individuals who understand the transformative power of literature.
