About ‘Divya Prem Sewa Mission’
‘Divya Prem Sewa Mission’ is a charitable organisation dedicated to improving and adding meaning to the lives of the children of leprosy patients in Haridwar. They have created a ‘Sewa Kunj’ for treating the patients of leprosy and the children study at their school called ‘Vande Mataram’. The school also provides a skill development centre for the children to enhance their sports skills and remain active. There are hostels with food for the children who have nowhere to go and no one to go to, to live in.It is situated in the Chandighat area of Haridwar. A casual visitor may easily overlook this place from a distance, given its humble appearance. Those who take some pains to reach up to the Ashram, realise that they are in a different world. The air here is refreshing, the surroundings are lush green, the breeze is calming, the people are grounded and kind, the intention is pure, and the sentiment is compassion. Away from the hustles and bustles of the city, the unique aesthetics add to the distinct charm of the ashram.
“It is not a matter of pride for them (lepers), but it is a distinguished honour for us, that they have provided us with an opportunity to serve them”. Such are the golden thoughts of the man who dedicated some of the best years of his life to serving the untouched, have-nots. Ashish Gautam, or Ashish Bhaiya Ji, as the world fondly calls him, was born in a modest rural family in Uttar Pradesh.
